Pondfilk / Johns memorial was great. A neighbourhood stranger wandered in with his daughter and picked up the guitar and started singing Wish You Were Here and THAT was the point I had to flee. I like two people singing that. One of them is me, and the other is Mike, and this guys version was raucous and came close to being guitar abuse.
I wandered around the pond, talking to Katie on my cell phone, and cherishing the tech that allows me to do that, and all the men and women who maintain the network because I could BE there for her while she was crying and unhappy about her life. I told her to quit worrying so hard about finding a job. To tell her to stop feeling bad about Dax - who has another girlfriend named Kayla now - is pointless, so I didnt try that. And I talked to her for 45 minutes.
My Unca Dave is going back for more radiation therapy in Kelowna next month. He had a health blowout that sounded, and was, very scary, and I got the description from his own mouth yesterday in a phone conversation. I chaffed him - people who are quite sick get sick of being treated with a pall of frightened solicitude, so I decided to be bracing, rather than go all, There There on him.
Paul turned up at Pondside about 7 and we sang and played and talked until about 11, when I hauled him out of there pleading exhaustion (no, it was some guy playing Wish You Were Here with no delicacy or spirit of overwhelmed longing). Thank you mOm for putting up with both of us.
Breakfast (porridge and decaf coffee with skim milk and no sugar) has been consumed, and now Paul and I will turn to the great Stack of Johns Books and try to make some sense of them.
Carrie and her spouse John attended, it was lovely to meet John. They are headed back up to Telegraph Creek soon. She seems to think Ill be going up there, but alas, unless I fly most of the way, or somebody gives me a ride in an extremely comfortable vehicle, theres not a snowballs chance in hell. The wine was awesome!
Douglas sang Bigfoot. I updated Johns memorial site the man who wrote, and taught John, Hit them in the Bottom Line Alan ODean, was there so I got the skinny on that song and by the blessings of reason, did we make a loud singing noise on the choruses. Or Chori, as Douglas would say. Also found out that the Mother Nature song was written by the Berrymans.
It will be sad to see them go. With John dead, Juliana has little reason to stay in Victoria; shell be heading off to Columbus OH sometime later this year. They have purchased a house there. Theyll need somebody to stay in the house but shes hoping to arrange that through church.
I missed Tom and Peggy by minutes. Sigh. Her bass on Tapioca is always something to look forward to.
The Devon Rexes, especially Sugar, previously shown on this blog, were in fine form, as was Johns erstwhile cat, Vincent.
Anyway, apart from a little residual sadness from talking to Katie, who really is having a rough go of it if her facebook posts are anything to go by, I am in a really happy, centered place. So I guess I can be more or less guaranteed that something interesting and challenging is about to happen cause you know, it never lasts.

I sit in a very fine chair in the Great Room of the Ahwanhee Hotel in Yosemite Valley, late afternoon sunlight pouring through the windows as a gentleman plays a grand piano, and fresh cookies and tea is served to the guests. The waterfalls leap off the cliffs, dancing and dashing their way down thousands of feet to the valley floor.
And theres wireless here, free for the taking. You can even catch it outside along with a cold Fat Tire and views of snowcapped Half Dome in one direction or Royal Arches in another, watching seasonal cascade do just that, and a white helmeted climber slowly go the other direction to scale that 11d climb.
The past two days we skiied at Badger Pass under spring conditions, staying one night in the van and the second in a cabin in Curry Village to take advantage of the Stay N Play deal. Last night and for the next two nights were camped near the confluence of the Merced river where theres still some patches of snow around and with views of Yosemite Falls! Then off to more adventures!
Details and pictures soon! As wonderful as it is in here, Id much rather be out thereriding my bike, and enjoying life and my family outside!.

The American Flyer is likely the most well known of all model train series. They did reach their peaks around the 40s and some other peak in the 60s, they had been around a long time. Their popularity is also skyrocketing now as well and they are,i personally guess that they will be around another 100 years!
A toy maker in Chicago addressed as William Hafner, in the very early 20th century developed a model train built on a clockwork motor, actually for the use in toy cars. By about 1905 however he made up his mind to put them into use in model trains as well. Luckily he did, the car did not sell as well as trains.
William Hafner and his good friend had the same name, William Coleman approached a small manufacturer of hardware, Edmonds-Metzel. They used this firm to start making trains in 1907.
They were first commercialise under the name of Edmond Metzel trains, as they were selling so well they required a perfectly new name and they came up with the name of the American Flyer. This occur around 1910. Even the name of the hardware organization they were using had likewise changed its name to incorporate the American Flyer name in it.
There are a few reasons why they sell so well. They were quite easily affordable then other popular makes of model trains at the time and because they were also quite a bit more practical then more budget style model trains of the time.
Mr William Hafner left the partnership around 1913. He used the funds he had already made and built his own organization. Colemans American Flyer Trains. It did well for quite a period of time around the first world war. There were no competition because of the war. In 1938 right before the break out of the second world war, the founders son with the exact name, took over the business after his father pass away in 1918 sold the American Flyer to a organisation called A C Gilbert Company. Gilbert already had experience in producing toys, but he has no idea anything about trains.
At the same time he also moved the enterprise from Chicago where it was made to New Haven in Connecticut where he lived. He also began to drastically re design the American Flyer and turned it into an S-scale model train in 1939. This scale is a modification of the popular O scale or model which was then the leader on the market.
The S-scale was much smaller then the O-scale and this made it more well known known with enthusiasts as it needed less room to setup a proper track. The scale is 1:64, substantially smaller then the O-scale yet still very detailed and accurate.
He also made some other change in 1946 that amended the realisticness of the American flyer more so. Model trains, electric model trains at that time had been run on 3 rail tracks. Not practical. He adjusted it so they ran on 2 rail tracks, much like their huge counterparts. These tracks had 7/8th inches tween each rail. This made the trains function better as well.
However, television was starting to take hold at this time too. This distracted many from their hobbies they would commonly spend their spare time on. Likewise at this time, discount chain shops came into play, discounting train sets that enterprises like A C Gilbert could not compete with. in 1962, Gilbert traded the American Flyer to Wrather Group. This enterprise made toys as well, but most of the time on a large scale and tended to make poor quality as well. Sales of course fell through the floor and in 1967 the firm went bankrupt.
A superior toy train maker and the market leader at time, Lionel Corporation bought the American Flyer. This company itself was having difficulty with finances as well and they too went bankrupt in 1969, so they sold off the rights to the American Flyer to some other manufacturer, General Mills.
This corporation, General Mills, started trading numerous of the designs of the original designed Gilbert American Flyer, it however sold off everything it purchased from then Lionel Corp to Kenner, who then in turn sold the corporation to a man named Richard Kughn. This happened in 1985.
Mr Richard Kughn had great success with the organisation and design for eleven years, but he sold out in 1996 to a firm also known as Wellspring Partners, who then took on the original name of Lionel and named themselves Lionel LLC, which still operates today.
They sell the S-scale American Flyer still. They were at first concentrating on selling other scale models, but they begin selling more of American Flyer in 2002.
The American Flyer now is more then one hundred years old and has gone through many extraordinary hands. Its popularity is still going strong and while it fluctuates, this model train and scale is going no where fast.

Varna - In order concerning Bulgarian towns, villages and resorts ... Varna: cities in Bulgaria, Bulgarian metropolis. ... Lead the way Option Razlog .... Sundown ended Varna Varna is the main metropolis on the Bulgarian Black Sea Shore, ... Varna has in excess of 20 km of sand beaches and abounds in thermal mineral water sources. It enjoys a mild continental climate influenced by the proximity to the sea.The city lies 470 km north-east of Sofia, and the closest major cities are Dobrich (45 km to the north), Shumen (80 km to the west), and Burgas (130 km to the south-west). Varna is accessible by air (Varna International Airport), sea (Port of Varna Cruise Terminal), railroad (Central Train Station), and automobile. It was founded as an ancient Greek (of the city of Miletus) trading colony (apoikia), Odessos, about 570 BC (in the time of Astyages), on the site of an older Thracian settlement. The name Odessos, first mentioned by Strabo, was apparently pre-Greek, perhaps of Carian origin. Long before the Thracians populated the area, prehistoric settlements best known for the eneolithic necropolis, site of the Varna culture and the alleged world's oldest gold treasure, existed within the modern city limits. For centuries, Odessos was a contact zone between the urban Ionians and the Thracians (Getae, Crobyzi, Terizi) of the hinterland. By the 4th century BC, it had become a mixed Greco-Thracian community. In 339, the city was unsuccessfully besieged by Philip II but surrendered to Alexander the Great in 335, and was later ruled by his diadochus Lysimachus. The city was a Christian centre, as testified by the ruins of early basilicas, monasteries, and indications that apostle Ampliatus (Амплий, Amply), disciple of Saint Andrew, served as bishop there. In 442, a peace treaty between Theodosius II and Attila was done at Odessus.Theophanes the Confessor first mentioned the name Varna, as the place came to be known with the Slavic conquest of the Balkans, in reference to a 7th-century event. This name is arguably the most ancient among Bulgarian town names that have survived unchanged; it is pronounced identically in all regional languages. Asparukh, the founder of the First Bulgarian Empire, advanced to the so-called Varna near Odessos in 681 and made peace after routing a Byzantine army lead by Constantine IV in the Danube delta. Recent scholarship has suggested that the capital of Bulgaria was perhaps initially located in the vicinity of Varna before it was established in Pliska. Asparukh fortified the Varna lowland against possible Byzantine landing by a rampart, remains of which are still standing.Middle Ages - Control changed from Byzantine to Bulgarian hands several times during the Middle Ages. In the late 9th and the 10th century, Varna was the site of a principal scriptorium of the Preslav Literary School in a monastery founded by Boris I who may have used it as his monastic retreat. The Turks routed an army of 20,000 crusaders led by Ladislaus III of Poland (also Ulászló I of Hungary), which had assembled at the port to set sail to Constantinople. The Christian army was attacked by a superior force of 55,000 or 60,000 Ottomans led by sultan Murad II. Ladislaus III was killed in a bold attempt to capture the sultan, earning the sobriquet Warneńczyk (of Varna in Polish; he is also known as Várnai Ulászló in Hungarian or Ladislaus Varnensis in Latin). The subsequent retreat of the crusader army made the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans in 1453 all but inevitable, and Varna (with all of Bulgaria) was to remain under Ottoman domination for over four centuries. Today, there is a cenotaph of Ladislaus III in Varna.Late Ottoman rule - The Russians temporarily took over the city in 1773 and again in 1828, following the prolonged Siege of Varna, returning it to the Ottomans in 1830 after its medieval fortress was razed. The British and French campaigning against Russia in the Crimean War (1854-1856) used Varna as headquarters and principal naval base, many soldiers died of cholera and the city was devastated by a fire. In 1866, the first railroad in Bulgarian lands connected Varna with the port of Rousse on the Danube, linking the Ottoman capital Istanbul with Central Europe; for a few years, the Orient Express ran through that route. Mass tourism emerged in the 1960s.In 1962, the 15th Chess Olympiad, also known as the World Team Championship, was here. In 1969 and 1987, Varna was the host of the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. The National Revival Alley is decorated with bronze monuments to prominent Bulgarians, and the Cosmonauts' Alley contains trees planted by Yuri Gagarin and other Soviet cosmonauts in the 1960s. The Garden is a national monument of landscape architecture. The waterfront promenade is lined by a string of beach clubs offering a vibrant scene of rock, hip-hop, Bulgarian and American-style pop, techno, and, naturally, chalga. In October 2006, The Independent dubbed Varna Europe's new funky-town, the good-time capital of Bulgaria. Additionally, the 2.05 km long, 50 m high Asparuhov most bridge is a popular spot for bungee jumping.

There is sometimes an immediate connection between the immune system of the body and the stress that we undergo. The more the stress, the weaker the immunity. Some of us develop certain allergies over time and the stress makes it worse. With little time left to ourselves, we are left with no option, but medication. The news is that Allegra, scientifically known as Fexofenadine hydrochloride is an effective drug developed for treating hay fever and other allergic symptoms. A very imperative question that immediately arises is if it is as fatal as an earlier version, referred to as terfenadine. We can all rest assured in the case of Allegra, however, because unlike its predecessor, Allegra does not enter the brain directly through blood, and is hence, less fatal and far more safer, hence effective. Who would want to get new allergies for old ones in any case?
Some may not know much about this, but Allegra is an antihistamine drug of the second generation. Antihistamines work against the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body. Besides on hay fever, it works well against a runny nose, watery and itchy eyes also. However, it is important to consult your physician against any serious illness that you might have or a dosage adjustment, if required. Some of the likely allegra side effects are as follows: difficulty in breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue or face, nausea, upset stomach etc. It has also been touted as a strict no-no for pregnant women.
Often a variety of choices is more confusing that helpful, but the important thing to remember is that this one has been developed after a whole generation of antihistamines and is more or less proven. Find your most trusted online pharmacy, not necessarily the cheapest, and youre all set to buy Allegra. There are more ways than one to deal with allergies.

When she first arrived in New York, she was so self confident, she was convinced she would take New York by storm! After all, she stood out in her local town as a beauty.
She was in for a big surprise, it was so many beautiful black women in New York who worked in her field, she was barely noticeable.
She was devastated when her career stalled and her money got low.
She longed for the glamorous life. She was money and material motivated. She had to have the finer things in life at any cost!
She decided to turn her sights on black celebrity men.
She started going to industry parties in sexy clothing.
One evening, she went to an industry party for the group Jodeci, who was on the upswing at the time.
She made a grand entrance in alluring attire and caught the eye of Mr. Dalvin. They soon became intimate and she started hanging out with the group away from the public eye.
What few people know, she was passed around and slept with every group member. Rumored orgies and train ride allegations still persist. It's also been rumored she was passed along to label mates and executives as well.
She was disappointed she didn't get more out of her multiple liaisons. She moved on
and decided to focus on richer more connected men.
She would hook up with another music industry man, he spoiled her but it was never enough. So she traded up for someone in front of the scenes. They had a volatile relationship. Regardless, she put a plan in motion that would guarantee her money-but it backfired.
Her man was not as rich as she assumed and she was outraged. Time to move on.
She caught one of the biggest fish in the pond and this time she did it right. Her flawless plan didn't fail this time.

Short on inspiration for Halloween this Friday? Refinery29's favorite people share their best and worst trick-or-treating moments to help you prepare for the holiday in style.
Samantha Pleet, DesignerCrafty Chic
What's the best costume you've ever had? I was once a purple octopus with tentacles attached to my arms with clear fishing wire. It was amazing and a lot of work all the arms were stuffed like thin long pillows with wire in them and a matching leotard. Also, I just found this picture in my old scrap book. It's the first Samantha Pleet design ever. I was 14 and I wanted to be fashionable for Halloween the jacket said "Trs Chic" on the back and it was made completely out of felt.
Best costume you've ever seen? Eviana Hartman was a fortune cookie last year, her costume was made out of an old mattress wrapped around just like the magic cookie. She even handed out actual fortune cookies to people all night! Also, last year I spent all my time making my husband Patrick's costume. He was a historic figure from the 18th century and I made him a 3 piece suit. I didn't have time to work on mine so I just threw on a sparkly romper.
What was your candy strategy as a kid? After trick or treating I would dump out my bag and sort through all the loot, do some candy trading with the other kids and sometimes we would get little toys like spider rings. I loved those!
Have you ever had a wardrobe malfunction? Not really, but Patrick once was a bag of jelly beans which was made from balloons and a clear garbage bag. We could just say that he "popped."
Do you have costume pet peeves? I'm afraid I will see really scary costumes this year like the Governor who must not be named I think we all know who I'm talking about!
Any plans for this year? I'm going to be a bird of pray or maybe I'm going to be a mystical creaturea unicorn horn and feathered wings.

Apparently between campaigning to end hunger and AIDS around the globe, Bono enjoys cavorting with 19 year-old students in St. Tropez. Nice work! This weekend the Daily Mail released these photos of Bono and his friend with two students hanging out on his lap and on a yacht. One of the students, an Amercian studying fashion in Paris, told Daily Mail that she and Bono had been "good friends" for a few years but that nothing had ever happened between them. First of all, yeah right, and second of all, if they've been friends for a "few years" then that means when she was what, 15 or 16 when they started their "friendship"? Seriously, that's gross.
Bono should probably think twice about calling his 19 year-old "friend" to hang out with him on vacay given that this is the the digital age because she promptly left a comment on her friend's Facebook saying: "So Bono and Simon called me yesterday and they arrived in Cannes today, so looks like well have a plan! :)"
Yeah, a plan to tarnish Bono's public image, perhaps.

The countdown to this seasons Project Runway finale is riveting. I had my heart set on Jerrell for a while, because I admired his aesthetic throughout the show, but it seems that he does best when given direction, but if you give him too much freedom, he tends to go over the top. And as a result, last night he lost the wedding dress / brides mates dress challenge. Were now down to top 3: Leanne, Korto and Kenley. I dont know about you, but Im rooting for the underdog Kenley. Her wedding dress is phenomenal and blows the rest of the contenders out of the water. As far as Im concerned, that girl deserves to win. She has been ceaselessly berated for her attitude, but that tough skin has come in handy in her fight to the top. It sucks that the other competing designers have ostrasized her from the group, but that also served as a catalyst for her kick-ass final collection. Kenley went all out with hand-painted fabrics and beautifully crafted designs to really prove to the judges that her skills precede her personality. Vote for Kenley.

August 9, 2008
Wedding Prayer
Today the 2 f you will promise to dedicate yourselves comoletely to each other, with body, speecb, and mind.
In this life, in every situation, in wealth or poverty, in health or sickness, in happiness or difficulty, you will work to help each other.
The purrpose of your relationship will be to attain enlightenment by perfecting youe kindness nad compassion towarf all beings.
Vows
Graydon and Katie are happy today not only because they can share the joy of their love for each other with friends and family, but also because they have the opportunity to express their aspirations for the future.
Do you, Graydon and Katie, pledge to help each other in developing your hearts and minds, cultivating compassion, generosity, ethics, patience, enthusiasm, concentration and wisdom, as you age and undergo the various ups and downs of life, and to transform them into the path of love, compassion, joy and equanimity? “We Do”
Do you pledge to support each others journey, to continually shine light on each others virtue, and support individual intuitions, even when it doesnt directly benefit yourself? Do you pledge to reinforce and complement each others virtue? “We Do”
Understanding, that just as we are a mystery to ourselves, each person is also a mystery to us. Do you pledge to seek to understand yourselves, each other, and all living beings, to examine your own minds continually and to regard all the mysteries of life with openness and joy? “We Do”
Recognizing that the external conditions in life will not always be smooth and that internally, your own minds and emotions will sometimes get challenged by negativity; do you pledge to see all these circumstances as a challenge to help you grow, to open your hearts, to accept yourselves, and each other? Do you pledge to avoid becoming narrow, closed or opinionated, and to help each other to see various sides of situations? “We Do”
Do you pledge day to day, to be patient with yourselves and others, knowing that change comes slowly and gradually, and to seek inspiration from your teachers not to become discouraged? “We Do”
Do you pledge to preserve and enrich your affection for each other, and to share it with all beings? To take the loving feelings you have for one another and your vision of each others potential and inner beauty as an example, and rather than spiraling inwards and becoming self absorbed, to radiate this love outwards to all beings? Do you pledge to expand your family to include all living beings.

VOLPECULA ART DECO (Florian) is one of two very promising young litter brothers I am showing this year. He is a very steady, reliable and serious young man, who enjoys going to shows almost as much as chasing his lilttle green ball!
He is outstanding in construction, movement, outline and head, and has never been unplaced at any of his many Championship shows.
Florian is just sixteen months old.
So far he has won at Championship Shows:-
Reserve Challenge Certificate at SKC
1st YD SKC
1st PGD Border Union
1st YD Blackpool
1st JDB Bangor
1st INT Dun Laghaoire
and we are only halfway into the show season.
I have great hopes for Florian.
